Put a Sweater On!! - SOLD

Last winter, I looked outside on a sunny, crisp day and saw these shadows on my backyard hill. They looked like someone had painted them onto the hill with a brush in horizontal stripes. Matthew's red shed, at the top of the hill, was brilliant against the white snow and purple-blue shadows.

Today, it is November 1st, and usually our first snow in Rochester falls around the 8th. So, I thought this was an appropriate piece to add to my blog. Makes you want to put a sweater on, doesn't it?

I painted this in water-soluable oils and it measures 5"x7".

Holmes Hollow Tree Farm- Dec 2009

These two barns sit side by side on the property of Holmes Hollow Tree Farm in Perinton, NY. It is where I buy my Christmas trees. The owners are kind enough to allow our plein air painters to paint there. It had just snowed the night before. The ground was covered with about three inches of clean, sparkling white. The sky was gray, but little bits of sunshine peeked through onto the roof and side of the barns. The hill in the background showed the evergreens ready for harvest. Some were in shadow; some in light.
I love this piece! I think my colors are very pleasing and I captured the movement of the land with my brushstrokes.
