Sackets Harbor Boathouse - AWARD WINNER

This past weekend, I participated in my 3rd plein air painting competition at the Sackets Harbor Canadian-American Festival. My piece, painted in oil, won an Honorable Mention ribbon.

The judge, Roland (Chip) Stevens, commented on the strong composition and the painterly style of the piece.

It measures 12"x12" and is painted on hardboard.

Adirondack Trickle

This scene is a studio painting of a lovely wooded area in the Adirondacks. I painted this in acrylics using a technique similar to watercolor. The colors are earth tones and very soft. The water is dynamic...filled with subtle color variations.

This piece measures 18"x24" and I have it framed in a matte black frame.

Koi Pond-- WINNER OF JUDGE'S AWARD SOLD

I painted this in acrylic from a photo I had taken of a koi pond. It has very pleasing colors with calligraphy in the foreground water to add interest and design. The flowers in the back are painted more generally with less definition.

It measures 12"x16" and I framed it in a frosted gold that really complements the yellow tones throughout the piece.

I entered it into the Penfield Art Association's Spring Show. Jeanne Lindsay, the judge, selected it for a Judge's Award.

Jen's Conesus Lake View

One of my favorite plein air painters, Jen, returned to NY with her family for a summer vacation. She invited our group to paint at her Conesus Lake cottage. We had lots of fun painting and visiting.

This piece shows the view from shore.
Most of the brushwork is smooth and blended, but the foreground shallow water and sand pebbles show up nicely to contrast with the larger, looser strokes of the background.

This, too, is painted in oil and measures 10"x10".

Chili Garden -- Red Fire Bush

Recently, I visited the property of a master gardener and painted the bright red fire bush growing next to the pond. The bright yellow greens behind it really attracted me to the scene.
I painted this in watercolor, and the piece shows my expressive brush work.
I like the composition and the colors.
