"Out of the Blue" 24"x24"

A contemporary acrylic painting on a cradled board that measures 24"x24".

I painted with a color palette that combines Ultramarine blue and Cobalt with Teal and mid-value purples. The Black shapes and line work contribute to the drama of this piece.

Wendy, Rivka and Sue: SOLD

I loved this piece from the moment I painted it. It just flowed out of me. The personality of the women can be felt just from looking at their backsides and posture.

The background is full of colorful mark making. Their dresses are teal, with some collage pieces glued here and there to design their outfits.

Notice the sign in the upper right: SHOP!

Under the Big Top

The figures in this piece are bright red. They are placed in a world of teal and yellow mark making that resembles being under a circus tent.

It is a bold color scheme that would fit in a contemporary space.

It measures 10 x 11.

The Erosion of Faith, Hope and Charity

This mixed media piece was mainly made using powdered charcoal and acrylic paint.

After the 2016 election, when tempers were hot, and friends were lost, I painted this piece to represent that decay in human interaction.

The title---- "The Erosion of Faith, Hope and Charity" shows three young women whose faces seem to be eroding or dripping away--- to signify the loss in kindness during 2016 - 2017.

It's harsh, but has beauty, as well. The colors are subtle blue and pale orange.

It measures 35 x 16.

The Lady Sings the Blues

"The Lady Sings the Blues" is a mixed media piece that measures 24 x 24.  I painted it on a cradled board.

The background on this piece is solid, unlike most of my backgrounds which are usually filled with mark making.

The colors are a bold blue and orange complementary scheme with floral, stripes, and dots as part of the design.

She's Gone

The colors in "She's Gone" are mostly warm tones of browns, oranges, and teals. The abstract background offers you a contemporary feel while still showing a recognizable human form sitting all alone on a sofa.

What's happened to him? Why is he alone? Where did she go? And why?  The viewers can fill in their own narrative.

This mixed media piece measures 11 x 14.

Piano Man - SOLD

Creating Piano Man was great fun. I started the piece applying collage to the substrate. The stripes of the paper reminded me of piano keys...then the light bulb went off. From there, I drew a "James Bond" type guy as the focal point.

The background is dark value acrylic, like a smoked filled nightclub. The bold colors are striking. The "whites" of his cuffs and collar define him beautifully.

This mixed media piece measures 12 x 12.

Hangin' Out

A couple hangin' out on a bench. Their posture indicates they have an "attitude"-- are they relaxed? In love? Having a quarrel? You decide.

This mixed media piece measures 12 x 12 and is full of mark making. It has a bold orange and blue complementary color scheme.

Geisha Girls

This mixed media piece measures 11 x 10 and has bold colors and contemporary background. There's a story here......but, what is it?
I had fun starting with "mark making" which then morphed into this descriptive piece.

New Mixed Media Piece: "Springtime"

"Springtime" is my new mixed media piece painted in acrylic on a hard board cradled.  It measures 18x18.

This piece has many three dimensional aspects to it that I have highlighted with color to accent a particular area. I used oil pastels, paint, and many mediums.

The circles represent the continuity of life, and I use them in many of my paintings.  But in this one specifically, the circles take on the form as "seed" under the ground, as well as, above.

The color palette is very charming-- pinks and alizarin, and crimsons.

New Mixed Media Piece: "Lyrical"

"Lyrical" is a new mixed media piece painted in acrylic and on a hard board cradle.  It measures 24x24.

I have collage, black ink, paint, and many acrylic mediums on this piece, and in some areas, it is actually three dimensional. It reminds me of the movie "Avatar" with its lyrical, ethereal feel to it.  Hence, the title.

I was free and rhythmic painting this piece and I believe I had Abba music playing in the background, so my arms and brush were "flowing."

New Mixed Media Piece -- "Oh! Joy"

"Oh! Joy" is a mixed media piece that measures 24x24 and is painted on a hard board cradle.

The color scheme is mostly reds and greens with warm toned yellow flowers.  This a a very "happy" piece, and I had lots of fun painting it.

Treasure Island Sunset - SOLD

Colorful sunsets!  Who doesn't ooh and aah over them?  I painted this piece in acrylic on hardboard. It shows lots of subtle color shifts and interesting brush strokes. The orange underpainting peeks through here and there to enhance the feeling of atmosphere.

This piece measures 8" x 8".

Grazing Hour: Fairport Farm

This is the sheep and cow farm close to my house on Ayrault Rd in Fairport. The cows meandered in the pasture grazing as they moved slowly along. It was a brilliant sunny day and I captured that with the high key and dark shadows.

I painted this in oil on board. It measures 10"x10"

Linear Park Angler: Irondequiot Creek

I painted this piece "en plein air" at Linear park in Penfield, NY.  The canopy of trees blocked most of the early morning sunshine except for a few dappled areas here and there. I captured that light "peeking through" just behind the figure fishing. The piece consists of mostly soft hues of grays, browns and siennas. The red jacket of the man gives a pop of color to the generally earth-toned painting.

This measures 10"x10" and I painted it in oil on canvas.

Mission Point Resort: Mackinac Island

These are the flower beds in front of the Mission Point Resort where we stayed on Mackinac Island, Michigan.  The shapes and brilliant colors struck me like a ton of bricks. I knew I had to paint this scene. It took me a few years to finally finish this piece, but now I am please with the turn out.

It measures 10"x10" and I painted it in acrylic.

Rhododendron Beauties

June Rhododendrons picked from my back yard. They are so lovely.

I painted this still life in acrylic. The palette is soft hues of light blue background coupled with the pinks, mauves and whites of the fabric.

The piece measures 10"x10" and is painted on a cotton canvas.

SOLD Abstract: Reclining Girl

Reclining Girl continues within my abstract series. The piece consists of basic elements that are non-descriptive, and are suggestive in shape, color and value. I applied texture with gel onto the substrate before and during the painting process.  I painted the girl in only after the piece suggested the sofa to me.

It measures 11"W x 10"H.

Abstract: Angel Fish

This piece is another created in my "abstract series."  You'll find lots and lots of color and texture, both in the background, and especially on the fish. The layers on the angel fish seem to shimmer with light, just like real fish gills. The colors are very pleasing and pop from across the room.

It measures 10"W x 11" H.

Monhegan Hillside with Houses

I used a black monoprint for my base on this piece. Then covered it with color and more texture. It's very colorful and up close, you can see all the texture that was developed before my first brushstroke ever touched the surface. It measures   11 x 10.

Abstract - Yellow Sky, Green Fields

Another abstracted landscape featuring texture, shape and color. I have done three pieces focusing on barns with three silos - all are very different. This piece promotes warm tones of soft yellows and burnt sienna, coupled with the cool tones of blue greens. It measures 11 x 10.

Abstract - Cows! Cows!

Purple, pink and aqua cows? Yep! This piece is full of unusual colors. No wishy-washy paintings here. The secret is layers and layers of acrylic paint to create interesting shapes and textures. I love the way this came out. I think you will too.
It measures 11"x10" .

Abstract - Ancient Writings (Ring Shape)

This abstract takes the "cruciform" shape...a universal symbol.  I added loads of texture, shape and color to add interest. The ring shape is etched with symbols suggesting language. Hence, the title Ancient Writings. It's a fun piece, and is just full of pleasing colors. A black contemporary frame really pops them out. You wouldn't overlook this piece hanging on a wall!
It measures 11x10.

Abstract - Farm on the Hill

Farm on the Hill was a blast to paint! I created all these textures which developed into sections that looked just like "farmer's fields." The colors are rich and warm, and everywhere you look there is another interesting texture or shape. It is framed in a copper colored metal frame under glass and matted. It measures 11x15.

Abstract - Inner City

Here's another colorful abstract. The shapes started to suggest buildings, so that became my objective with the composition. I named it "Inner City" to conjure up images we all share, each with our own versions.
This piece measures 11"x10" and the acrylic is painted on watercolor paper.

Available at Artisans' Loft,  Pultneyville, NY

Abstract: Black and Blue

I painted this mixed media abstract using softer tones of blue, green, and raw sienna. The shape of the design is called opposing forces, with black paint accenting the focal point with a bang.
The piece is full of different textures adding interest in all areas. It measures 10"x11"

Abstract: Ancient Writings (Rectangular Shape)

This design is in cruciform shape in mixed media. It's got layers of texture, and tones of transparent paint in pink, orange, green and jet black. It's a very dramatic piece. The symbols and writings suggest writings of ancient cultures.
It measures 11"x11"

Abstract: Pink Orb

This abstract piece measures 10"x11" and has wonderful colored layers of magenta, blue, green, and soft yellow. Each layer is semi-transparent, so you can see the previous layers peeking through, giving you that "depth" that really enhances the piece.

The focal point, the orb, just bursts with color. You can't have a gloomy day with a happy piece like this hanging on your wall.

Abstract: Pink Fields with 2 Silos

I just returned from a 5 day workshop with Karen Rosasco who taught experimental acrylics. What a wonderful teacher! I learned all kinds of new designs, and techniques to apply to the versatile acrylic medium.

This piece is full of shapes and layers and layers of fabulous color and texture. I love how this came out.

I saw the two silo shapes in the upper right, and just knew this had to be an abstracted landscape.

This measures 10"x11"

Stained Glass Series: Blue Tree

This is the second in my "stained-glass" series. The shapes are big--very little detail--with the black outlines defining them. The color shifts aren't evident online, but in person, these pieces are vibrant and fun.

Both pieces measure 12"x12" and are framed in a contemporary black frame which really makes them pop!

Stained Glass Series: Barn with Fence

I tried something new here. I started off painting my surface all black. From there, I gently drew in the design with pastels and blocked in my big shapes with transparent glazes. These were followed by opaque layers. The end result is a "stained- glass" effect because everything is somewhat outlined in black.
Looking to the piece from online, the color changes are subtle but up close and personal the piece is full of color.
I love how this piece came out and plan to teach the process soon.

Sackets Harbor Boathouse - AWARD WINNER

This past weekend, I participated in my 3rd plein air painting competition at the Sackets Harbor Canadian-American Festival. My piece, painted in oil, won an Honorable Mention ribbon.

The judge, Roland (Chip) Stevens, commented on the strong composition and the painterly style of the piece.

It measures 12"x12" and is painted on hardboard.

Rhododendrons - SOLD

This acrylic painting of rhododendrons measures 12"x12" and has a soft yellow background and soft green tones that don't really show up in this photo.

I painted this onto professional artist hardboard.

Autumn Snow

This acrylic painting is done on a textured surface, so the brushstrokes are emphasized. The background trees are a wonderful blend of warm fall tones set against the cool shadows of the snowy ground.

It measures 9"x12"

Florida kayaker - SOLD

This is a studio painting from a photo I took near a riverbed in Largo on 8th SW Street. I was painting en plein air with my friend, Sally, when a kayak came floating by. The boater posed for me. It was the perfect addition to this composition of green flora.

This piece measures 20"x24" and I painted it in acrylics.

Ellison Park Winter

This is an studio painting of Ellison Park, not too far from our daughter's house. It's a very dramatic piece in acrylic using high contrasts to exaggerate a winter's day. You can feel that COLD !

I applied a glazing technique with acrylic medium. So there are lots of transparent layers which show all the subtle colors at play. The focal point is the intersection where the tree meets the orange bush.

Since I love the "square" format, I painted this in that shape. This piece is large for me and it measures 24"x24". It is framed in a contemporary, crisp, black frame.

Sailboat Reflections: Sackets Harbor

This plein air oil piece I painted in the Sackets Harbor Competition captures all the lovely reflections in the water. It's diagonal composition draws you in, and certainly features the sailboat, but the reflections are key in this painting.

It measures 10"x10" and has a pleasant color palette and varied brushstrokes.

Ayrault Rd. Sheep Farm - SOLD

This oil painting shows the sheep farm not far from my house. While the sheep were grazing,  I started painting the farm structures, for some reason. Then I began placing the sheep shapes here and there. All of a sudden, they all started to hurry off to the rear of the silos, as if they had been called. "Hey, what's going on?" ......and they never returned. Lesson learned. Paint the shapes that will likely change FIRST!

This piece measures 12"x12".
